This Week’s Sign of the Apocalypse: I finally got around to trying Taco Bell’s Doritos Loco taco.

Every once in a while, the hive mind that controls the organic inputs and outputs of fast food comes up with an idea that draws me in with its disgusting siren call. A few years ago, I was almost ensnared by KFC’s Double Down (a ham and cheese sandwich but with breaded fried chicken breasts instead of bread). The Doritos Loco has been calling to me similarly, combining two of my great loves: Doritos and TB hard shell ground meat tacos. Except I hate one of those things and am kind of throwing up at the thought of it.

Anyways, here it is. The shell is interesting – it really is a Doritos chip, has that characteristic salty, fake cheesy blend of chemicals/spices. It is a chip not a taco shell, so it is actually poorly suited to this task, crumbling at the slightest touch. The overlords must have tested this, because they enrobe the thing in a cardboard sleeve to aid the eating.

The real bummer is that in addition to the Doritos chip shell you have to eat the TB taco fillings. Gross meat-like ground junk, cheap weird yellow cheese, iceberg lettuce, and a salt bomb hit. Ugh.

At least you can drown it in a hot sauce. Oh wait, the hot sauce is weird too, surprisingly sweet and industrial tasting.

I guess this was all to be expected. I probably deserved what I got.
